Tech Tip
Not only can Spyware and Adware invade your privacy, they can also clog up your computer's memory making it run slowly. They can even keep you from getting on the internet.
Take the following steps to keep your computer clean.
- Get a good spyware prevention program and run it every week or two. Two I recommend are listed on the links page.
- Keep you virus protection up-to-date. A good package will catch some of the worst spyware.
- Clean up you disk drive. Delete temporary internet files and cookies fairly often. Windows XP provides a Disk Cleanup Tool (Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools).
Beware that some legitimate companies place cookies on your system so that you can run their on-line software. Microsoft Money's online portfolio is an example. If you have one of
these programs, you'll need to delete cookies manually being sure to leave the ones you need.
